Thinking about refacing? We say don’t! Here’s why…
Most companies will tell you that it is cost efficient and while it may cost less to reface then to build an entirely new set of cabinets, in reality spending that extra bit of money to have a complete cabinet reno done will save you money in the long run. Refacing cabinets is at least 60% of the total cost of what you would spend to buy new cabinets. The doors are the most work to make; therefore, make up most of the cost. Do not be fooled by people who will tell you otherwise.
Deciding to replace the doors in turn should mean it’s time to replace the entire cabinet. If the cabinet is in bad shape, or you don’t like it, or feel it’s time for a change, keep in mind that what needs to be redone goes beyond the door. Cabinet doors will make the appearance of the cabinets appealing but your cupboards should be designed for more than just their appearance. Most kitchens are, in fact, not designed by an expert in cabinetry but by the architect of the home so they may look nice but are not functional. With all the new products on the market your kitchen could function much better with new cabinets not just new doors.
Replacing the entire set of cabinets allows for a fresh new look and arrangement, it will allow you to rethink that function of your kitchen. Perhaps what was a good set up 40 years ago when your house was built is not right for your today!! Never do home renovations halfway, it will always cost your more in the long run. If you are going to invest in cabinets invest wisely just as you would with your house or car.
