We have compiled a list of what we feel are the 10 kitchen must haves:
1. An island/Peninsula with an eating bar
They are great for people to gather around. Add a couple of bar stools and it becomes a place for the kids to have their snack, or extra spots for your guests to sit at your dinner parties.
Islands are so handy. They are a great place for storage, and serve as work stations, whether you need to finish your paper work or do some baking.
Can’t figure out where to put your dish washer? Kitchen sink? Cook top? Right in your island. Islands are a great way to eliminate that annoying problem that seems to come with most homes: NOT enough counter space.
If you have the room to add this beautiful addition, it is a must.
2. Clean lines
Contemporary is in folks. It has a sleek, finished look. Having clean lines makes it easier to clean than some of the older, more traditional kitchens which had crown mouldings and fancier designs.
3. PaperStone countertop
This great eco-friendly product is a rich, bold countertop that stands out in appearance. It is made out of 100% post-consumer recycled paper and comes in 12 great colors. It is one of the most durable countertops you can purchase and is comparable in price to mid-range granite. This non-pourus material is heat resistant up to 350 degrees!
De-clutter your cabinets and countertops by having a spice rack build in with your cupboards. This handy pull-out helps to keep your kitchen organized by having your spices all in one place. Having one cupboard for all your cooking and baking needs is much more convenient, no more running around the kitchen looking for all your ingredients.
5. Wire racks
Great for organizing your pots, pans, plates, and cookie sheets. It makes your items easily accessible instead of having to fumble through a stack of dishes.
6. Recycling stations
This pull-out style station is much like the pull-out spice rack. Easily accessible and cuts down on clutter. Already have a recycling station? Use the same idea for your garbage!!
7. Pull out microwave
Don’t like the microwave on the counter? Not a fan of microwaves above the stove?
Drawer style microwaves aren’t on the counter they are under it and are less visible but still highly accessable.
It may seem a little repetitive to pull out everything but when it comes to the function and access of your kitchen, having pull-out’s are so handy. This snazzy gadget pulls out like a drawer. Place your food inside and heat. Simple and space saving!
8. Ice glass
This product has the look of ice, hence its name. Use it for a stunning back splash in your kitchen or as art in any room.
9. Drawers
We can’t get enough of drawers, the more the better. In the name of convenience and from our experience what is underneath your countertop should be drawers.
Instead of having to kneel down on the floor to reach and search through your cabinets to try to find something, why not pull it out towards you. EASY!
10. SOS Trays
ACTUALLY, this one we strongly advise against! If you need a place to store your dish rags and scratch pads try a sink caddy, this can be purchased at any home decor store for about $10.00-$30.00, and can also hold your dish soap. Or simply re-use a plastic dish or Tupperware container. Sink caddy’s are far easier to clean and can be moved if need be. An S.O.S tray not cleaned every day becomes gunky and smelly and is a great nesting ground for mould to grow.
So to save you money and cleaning say no to the S.O.S tray.
